"Madhava Nidana" stands as a pioneering textbook in Ayurvedic diagnosis, notable for being one of the first to compile information in a systematic, subject-oriented format. This comprehensive treatise covers a spectrum of topics such as causative factors, early warning signs, symptoms, disease progression, complications, and prognosis. Authored by Madhavakara, it delves into the pathological details of numerous diseases across various Ayurvedic specialties. The structure of the book is meticulously organized: Chapter 1 introduces the basics of Nidana Panchaka—the five tools for diagnosing diseases. Subsequent sections, specifically Chapters 2-19, 22-37, and 49-54, focus on Kaya Chikitsa, addressing systemic ailments like fever and diarrhea. Chapters 20 and 21 explore Graha or Bhuta Vidya, which includes toxicology and worm infestations. Surgical discussions are found in Chapters 38 and 55, while Chapters 56-60 detail Shalakya Chikitsa, concerning diseases of the ENT and related areas.
