Another 2010 study published in the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism notes that nootkatone, a characteristic constituent of grapefruit, stimulates energy metabolism and prevents diet-induced obesity by activating the enzyme called AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This enzyme also helps your body utilize sugar, thereby boosting your metabolism and aiding in weight loss. To help you burn fat quickly, try to eat more fresh grapefruit with its fleshy white membranes or grapefruit juice with a high amount of pulp.

Green Tea

Green tea, whether hot or cold, is one of the top beverages that contain fat-burning properties. This healthy beverage contains the antioxidant EGCG, which works to burn calories throughout the day and helps keep your metabolism rate high. A 2007 study published in the Journal of American College of Nutrition suggests that EGCG alone has the potential to increase fat oxidation in men and may thereby contribute to the anti-obesity effects of green tea. Another 2008 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that green tea extract can boost the fat burning effects of exercise. The caffeine content in green tea also increases your metabolism, along with giving you an energy boost. It is also known to help suppress appetite, which helps you avoid overeating. However, be careful not to take caffeine in excess as it tends to increase your heart rate, leading to rapid, irregular heartbeats. Drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea daily.
