Ambe Maa Origin Story

According to the Amba Maa folk tale Prajapati Daksh conducted mahayagna which came to be known as "Brihaspati-Saka". In this mahayagna every Gods were invited by Prajapati Daksh. Only his very own son-in-law Lord Shankar was not given any kind of invitation. The news about this mahayagna and objection of Lord Shankar , the daughter of Daksh - Sati Devi went to her fathers house . Devi Sati saw in this mahayagna that her Lord Shankar was not invited and further, heard insult of her Lord Shankar by her father she at once jumped into holy fire of mahayagna. Lord Shiv started Tandava-Nritya or the dance of destruction on seeing the dead body of her wife Sati Devi, further lifting her holy body he started roaming Trilok. Now the Lord Vishnu feared the dance of destruction he used his holy weapon called Sudarshan chakra to divide the body of Sati Devi into pieces spreading over the earth. These pieces of Sati Devi's holy body and ornaments fell over fifty two ( 52 ) places . Now these places became holy places with Shakti and Bhairava . This fifty two ( 52 ) mahapith is refereed in "Tantra-Chudamani" . And Ambaji of Arasur is one of the fifty two mahapith.

It is belived that the heart of Sati Devi fell only at Ambaji. It is referred in "Bhagvat" that the keshmundan (the ritual of removing of hair from head) of Lord Shri Krishan took place at Ambaji. In this occasion Nand-Yashoda (the parents of Lord Krishna) had planted jwara (the grass grown from wheat ) and stayed for seven days at Ambaji . Even today this place can be located at Gabbar Hill. The Pandavas during their vanvas, stayed at Arasur to mediate which is refereed in "Shashtra". Even Lord Ram and Laxman during their vanvas in search of Sita had visited Shringat Rushi in the jungle of Arbud. Shringat Rushi sent Lord Ram and Laxman to get blessings of Amba Maa. During that time The Godess Ambaji blessed Lord Ram with ajayban (the victory - arrow) to kill the demon Ravan. And it is believed that Ravan was killed by the same ajayban.
