À propos de Arabis Snowcap

Arabis Snow Cap Seeds (Rock Cress) Des masses de minuscules fleurs parfumées blanches comme neige

Description

Arabis Snow Cap Seeds (Rock Cress) 6320 Masses of tiny, snow white fragrant flowers appear in early spring from April through May against a backdrop of evergreen foliage. The silvery green foliage, barely 20 cm (8″) tall, provides an excellent ground cover all season long. Thin plants to 15 cm (6″) apart when transplanting or thinning out seedlings. Shearing after blooming will enhance compactness. Persistence can be reduced in heavy, poorly drained soils. Arabis is listed as a North American native plant by some authorities (Kartesz). Perennial hardy to Zone 4.

How to Grow

4800 seed/gram. Start seed indoors in a soil-less mix in January or February; germinate at 24 C (75 F) for 21 days. Press seed into contact with the soil but do not cover as light is essential for germination. After germination, grow on under lights at a slightly cooler temperature before hardening off and transplanting to a sunny or partially shaded site. Two grams sows 3 sq. m. (33 sq. ft.)

Perfect for the novice gardener, profuse pure white blooms cover the dense carpet of grey-green foliage. A welcome spring bloomer. Arabis Snowcap is an excellent choice for a rock garden or displayed in the front of your border. Try mixing it with spring-flowering bulbs for a spectacular show.

Arabis General Information

Arabis has sweetly scented flowers that draw attention in any setting. Good for edging or for around the base of shrubs and hedges. Does fine in shade, but will shorten bloom time. Avoid wet areas. Cut back after flowering for best foliage.

Arabis Plant Care

Cut back or shear by half after flowering to prevent bare stems. Divide in early summer after flowering or in early fall. Fertilize every other year in late fall to late winter.

This resilient evergreen alpine forms dense cushions of grey green foliage that are covered with pristine white flowers in spring. The nectar rich blooms of Arabis caucasica 'Snowcap' are loved by bees and other pollinating insects, making this a useful addition to wildlife areas. Arabis is tough and reliable, thriving in poor dry soils where other plants would struggle. This hardy perennial is ideal for creating low growing ground cover in rockeries, or edging paths and borders. Height: 10cm (4"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
