Beauty of Arno River

Florence, en Italie, est une destination magique nichée le long du fleuve Arno.

The Arno River is mostly known as the river that flows through Florence under the Ponte Vecchio, but we saw the beautiful Arno River at Pisa. The river is 240 kilometers (150 miles). Its source is at Mount Falterona in the area called Casention and flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea at the west of Italy. The Arno River is a very wide river and in Pisa there are many impressive buildings alongside. This makes it an ideal place to stroll along the river and cross some of the many bridges. There are not much ships on the river, because the Arno River is simply not deep enough to handle anything but the smallest boat. This also creates an almost serene and peaceful atmosphere. In the past the water level of the river was quite irregular. Sometimes it was almost dry, but in just a few days it became near flood. After the huge flood in Florence of 1966, killing a dozen people, many dams were built upstream, to prevent this from happening again.

Florence, Italy is a magical destination nestled along side the Arno river. Known for it's rich history in the arts, as it's the birthplace of the Renaissance, you can literally feel the creative energy of this city. While Rome is a bustling city center rich in ancient political and religious history, Florence is it's better looking, laid back, artsy sister. It has been called one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and that is so true. While I don't claim to have seen the world, I can still say with certainty that it would be hard to beat this Tuscan city.
