Cable Rat

Cable Rat is designed to help new and seasoned technicians alike by doing some of the troubleshooting for them.

Simply enter your levels and Cable Rat will crunch the numbers and tell you what you are looking for.

Cable Rat can:

- Measure the length of a drop

- Determine whether or not there are splitters in a run

- Calculate the roll-off to see if a drop is bad

Some things to note:

- The baseline that Cable Rat uses for calculations are based on certain coax manufacturers' specs for distance vs attenuation. Be mindful that these may vary due to dielectric material and temperature.

- I have used Cable Rat in the field personally, and it has helped me identify a bad drop in low visibility, and has also exposed a splitter that I was eventually able to find.

- Rats have tiny brains. Cable Rat is by no means intended to replace traditional troubleshooting. Instead, the purpose of Cable Rat is to simply help point out something that you may not have time to look for, or are just too burnt-out to figure out at that moment. We've all been there.
