I decided to study crochet in college. Crazy way for a student to spend free time? Surely I assure you that I am not as big a loser as it can make me heard. One night, for some strange reason, I found myself in a creative kick. My mother had taught me to cross the stitches as a child but would not do it again. I'm ready for something new and exciting. So for whatever reason, I choose crochet and knit. I imagine the super trendy afghans and throws decorate dorm rooms and great gifts to impress my fiance's parents. It is something I can learn to do that can be useful in the future. I can decorate the apartment or house, the clothes my kids want, and even give a nice cheap gift to all my friends.

Also keep an eye on how-to for kits. I started with a kit that included some crochet hooks and crochet plus extra patterns - much needed! Except the thread, this kit should give you the basics but do not go from the store. It's best to go ahead and buy some extra crochet latches or knitting needles as not all sizes are included in your kit. Other useful tools are counters, markers, stitch holders, point protectors (knitting only).

"Consultant" crochet and knitting tools me is my mother. After I first knit how-to books, I knew I had some questions. I find that some friends want to learn to knit as well. So we make "knit night" and all learn from my mother. A good social clock and educational enough! If you can find some people to do this with, I highly recommend it.
