Here's another idea that makes great use of the cute prints kids' fingers make: decorating flower pots! All you need are a few simple materials such as terra cotta flower pots, acrylic paint in a variety of bright colors, and a black marker. Oh, and of course, little thumbs dipped in paint! You can make butterflies, ladybugs, or whatever else you and your child can think of to decorate ordinary flower pots and transform them into pretty plant holders!

Tools and Materials Needed:

Terra cotta pots (We used 4 inch size pots.)

Acrylic paints (Various colors – the brighter the better!)

Black Paint Marker

Miscellaneous: Paper Plates, Wet Wipes (for easy clean up)

How to Make a Thumbprint Butterfly:

- Use a black paint marker to draw the butterfly body on the outside of the pot (see photo for reference).

- Squeeze a dime-sized amount of desired paint color out on a paper plate. Dip thumb in desired paint color.

- Press painted thumb onto pot four times (as shown in photo) to create butterfly wings. Repeat these steps to paint colorful butterflies all the way around the outside of the pot. Allow paint to dry completely.
