How to Make Sand Candles From Scratch in Simple and Easy to Follow Steps

Many people want to learn how to make sand candles because of how unique and beautiful they are. These candles are special as sand is a main ingredient, something that no other candles use. These candles are highly desirable and can come at a high price, this makes it all the more important to learn how to make sand candles at home. They are great as gifts and wonderful to decorate your home with. If you are ready to learn then here is a list of the different supplies that you are going to need.

You are going to need sand, if you live near a beach then this is easy to get, simply take a bucket and shovel down to the beach and collect some sand. While you are down there feel free to collect a few sea shells for your candle. If you do not live near a beach, no problem at all, you can simply buy some sand at an arts and crafts store.

Now when learning how to make sand candles these are the other items that you are going to need: A double boiler, some paraffin wax, a large bowl, color dyes, fragrance oils, a carving knife, some newspapers, a wick, a wick tab, and a spoon. Are you ready to start?

Step # 1. Now you want to start off by choosing a work area, choose an area that is flat and level. Make sure that this area is not going to be disturbed by pets and children. Cover the entire work area with newspapers in order to keep it safe as this project does have the potential to become messy.

Step # 2. Take the large bowl and put the sand in to it. Add some water to the sand. You want the sand to be wet but not soaking wet. Take your time as you do this and only add a little water at a time to avoid adding too much.

Step # 3. When learning how to make sand candles you are going to want to take your time with this next step. Make a hole in the sand by scooping out some of the sand with a spoon. You can use your finger to smooth the hole out on the inside if you desire. The size of the hole is going to be the size of the candle so make it as large or as small as you like.

Step # 4. Now you are going to want to prepare the wax. Take the double boiler and cut small chunks of the wax in to the top pan and fill the bottom pan about half way up with water. If you do not have a double boiler then you can easily make one. Take a basic boiling pot and this is going to be the bottom pan. Then take an empty soup can and this is going to be the top pan. Make sure that the soup can is clean and dry.

Step # 5. Put the double boiler on to the stove and bring the water to a boil. Stir the wax often and check the temperature regularly as the wax is going to melt at around 150 degrees and you do not want the temperature to be too much higher than that.

Step # 6. As you are waiting for the wax to melt you can get the wick in place. String the wick in to the wick tab if this is not already done for you. When this is done then place the wick tab in to the hole in the sand and make sure that it is centered.

Step # 7. When learning how to make sand candles this is one of the more fun parts. If the wax is melted then you can add the color dye and the fragrances. Make sure that you only add a little bit at a time as you do not want to add to much. Mix everything in well.
