I Protect +

I protect is a free and beta application that turns your mobile into a rescuer.

“I Protect” is a free and beta application that turns your mobile phone into a rescuer for when you're in trouble. People in Egypt who are concerned they may face the risk of arrest because of their human rights work or activism, or work, such as journalists, can use the “I Protect” application on an Android phone.

“I Protect” sends an “SOS message” to up to three close friends with your location on a map at the moment you sent the “SOS message”.

The message will also be sent automatically to the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF).

Please note that you need to have access to the Internet through your phone to be able to send the “SOS message” to ECRF, while you only need enough credit on your phone to send the message to your contacts (but your location will not be transmitted). You will need access to the Internet to transmit your exact location on a map to both the contacts and to ECRF.

At registration, you assign up to three phone numbers of three contacts, such as a close friends, who you wish to be informed when you face arrest.

You choose an “SOS number” (a single digit) which, when pressed with a long press, acts as a quick sender when you face arrest. The SOS message will be sent to the numbers you have chosen.

To edit your registration information you need to choose an “Edit number” (a different single digit from the “SOS number”), also used with a long press.

To send the “SOS message” to the specified contacts, make a long press on the “SOS number” which acts as a quick sender. As soon as “I Protect” sends the message, it turns into a calculator interface, hence concealing the application.

To log into your settings to edit your contacts, you must make a long press on the “Edit number” that you entered when you’re registered.

“I Protect” can only facilitate emergency assistance if your registered contacts are in a position to act or help.
