The book Nihayatuz Zain is one of the phenomenal books of Syafi'i school of jurisprudence for Islamic boarding school circles in Indonesia. This book is very close to the NU bahtsul masail forums, a tradition of Islamic boarding school scientific deliberation for Nahdliyin circles.

The full name of this book is Nihayatuz Zain Fi Irsyadi al-Mubtadi'in. A book of Islamic jurisprudence from the book Qurrotu al-'Ain by Sheikh Zainuddin al-Malibari. The book Nihayatuz Zain was written by Sheikh Abu Abdul Mu'thi Muhammad Nawawi bin Umar Al-Jawi, a Ulama who comes from Tanara village in Banten.

As a Qurrotu al-'Ain sharah, the Nihayatuz Zain book is the same as the Fathul Mu'in book, only the Nihayatuz Zain book is slightly thicker so it can be classified as a mutawassith (middle) sharah.

Sheikh Nawawi al Bantani is a scholar from Banten who is recognized for his knowledge in the Shafi'i, mufassir, mutashawwif schools of thought and is also an expert in Islamic sciences. This can be seen from his works which cover various branches of science. The figure of Sheikh Nawawi was recognized by international ulama circles so that he was given the title Sayyidul Hijaz during his time.

Among Sheikh Nawawi's many works, the phenomenal one is the book of commentary on the Al-Qur'an called Marah Labid. Not only in the field of interpretation, Sheikh Nawawi also wrote a book of fiqh which discusses household matters, the book is named 'Uqud al-Lujain. Apart from that, Syekh Nawawi also wrote the book Nurrudh Dholam syarah mandhumah Aqidatul 'Awam, Mirqatu Shu'udit Tashdiq, Kasyifatus Saja syarah book Safinatun Naja and many other books by Syekh Nawawi.

The book Nihayatuz Zain was written by Syekh Nawawi with quite short lafadz, language that is easy to understand and dense in content. The table of contents follows the arrangement in the book Qurrotul 'Ain, namely starting with the prayer chapter and ending with the chapter on freeing slaves.

The references used by Syekh Nawawi when compiling this book, as explained in the muqaddimah, are mainly quoted from the book Nihayatul Amal Liman Raghiba fi Shihhatil 'Aqidah Wal 'Amal by Abu Khudhoir Ad-Dimyathi. From this book, Syekh Nawawi took many quotations, especially for the sharia at the beginning of the book until the chapter bai' (buying and selling).

Apart from that, Sheikh Nawawi also cited references from the book Tuhfatul Muhtaj by Ibnu Hajar Al-Haitami, Nihayatu Al-Muhtaj by Ar-Romli, Fathul Jawad by Ibnu Hajar Al-Haitami, An-Nihayah by Waliyyuddin Al-Bashir, and a number of hasyiyah books another.

Sheikh Nawawi reminded that if there is correct content in the book Nihayatuz Zain, then the priority goes back to the authors of the book which was used as a reference by him. If there is something wrong, then it is purely his fault so I hope someone will be willing to correct it.
