Tash-hihu At-Tanbih is a book of jurisprudence of the Ash-Shafi'i school of thought written by An-Nawawi. The book "At-Tanbih" referred to in the title of this book is a book of jurisprudence of the Ash-Shafi'i school of thought in the form of a mukhtashor written by Ash-Syirozi. The book "At-Tanbih" is the book that An-Nawawi first memorized when he first arrived in the city of Damascus as a student of knowledge.

In the Ash-Shafi'i school of jurisprudence books, this book is also referred to and attributed to An-Nawawi. Among them are as stated in the book "Kanzu Ar-Roghibin" by Al-Mahalli, "Nihayatu Al-Muhtaj" by Ar-Romli, "Mughni Al-Muhtaj" by Asy-Syirbini, "Manhaju Ath-Thullab" by Zakariyya Al- Anshori, “Fathu Al-Wahhab”, “Hasyiyah Al-Jamal”, “Hasyiyah Al-Bujairimi”, “Hasyiyah Al-Bajuri”, “Hasyiyah Asy-Syarqowi”, and others.

This book was written by An-Nawawi with the intention of correcting the book "At-Tanbih" so that readers can find out what opinions in the book are not considered mu'tamad. So, by reading the book "At-Tanbih" which is accompanied by the book "Tash-hihu At-Tanbih" by An-Nawawi, anyone can hold it as the opinion of the mu'tamad of the Ash-Shafi'i school. An-Nawawi completed his writing on the morning of Friday, 27 Rajab 671 H.

This book is classified as a primary reference for finding out the opinions of the mu'tamad of the Ash-Shafi'i school of thought. In order of strength of reference, this book is ranked after the book "Al-Minhaj", namely the An-Nawawi 'Muslim style. This book takes precedence over another An-Nawawi book called "An-Nukat 'ala At-Tanbih/At-ta'liqoh".

Ibnu Qodhi Syuhbah said in his Thobaqot, the book "Tash-hihu At-Tanbih" is one of the early books written by An-Nawawi. So, if there is content in this book that contradicts other famous An-Nawawi books, then this book must be "defeated".
