If you’re like me, you probably have a lot of old stuff just lying around your house. It’s not doing anything but taking up space, but you’re either too busy or lazy, sentimental or just have more important things to deal with. Just because something is labeled as disposable, doesn’t mean it has to be! Many disposable products can be used more than once and even repurposed into something completely different and useful!

Some you will probably have heard of before, some may cause you to have a light bulb moment, but hopefully all will make you think twice about simply tossing these things after a single use. In extreme cases, this might lead to hoarding, but if you’re creative enough, you can solve the problem by repurposing, upcycling and reusing your old things. Besides serving a purpose again, repurposed items add this lovely touch of creativity and coziness to the space. Most of the time, upcycled things become even cooler than they originally were.

Reducing means cutting down on the amount of waste we produce in the home, and the amount of energy we consume. In terms of reducing waste, think carefully when you pop out to do your weekly shop. Water reuse is a trend that’s growing in popularity because it’s so easy to do, and yet makes such a huge difference. Waste water from the sink, the bath, or that’s collected in the shower can be used for watering houseplants, garden plants, or your lawn. Did you know that it takes 70% less energy to recycle paper than it does to create paper from raw materials? There are many ways we can recycle, including organising our papers, plastic bottles, glass, and food cans and putting them out for the council recycling collection, taking them to a local recycling centre, or popping them in the recycling bins at supermarkets. There’s a pretty broad range in this list but hopefully a handful jump out and spark an idea for you and your home!
