Getting Started
Stenciletto is easy to learn and children get it quickly. Let them learn to play in game mode, with hints and tips turned on.
• The Hint button shows the next correct stencil or shows the first wrong stencil
• The Show Solution button takes off any wrong stencils, shows the correct solution, and then replaces your child's stencils as they were.
Brain Training Mode
It’s good if your child starts by using hints and tips to help them find the solutions. But once they are comfortable with the game and they are ready for a bigger challenge, they can play in brain training mode. This turns off hints and tips. You can change this in Settings.
Thinking Skills
Solving Stenciletto puzzles takes a lot of thinking skills. You can help your child to master these thinking skills and use them in their everyday life.
Is Your Child Impulsive?
Children are naturally impulsive. Learning to control this is an important thinking skill. We are all better at problem solving when we stop and think about things first, rather than rushing in.
Stenciletto lets you observe how impulsive your child is. Do they tap on a stencil before they’ve thought about it? Of course they do at first. But they’ll get better scores when they learn to think before they tap. The trick is to ‘see’ the puzzle in your head before tapping in the answer. Demonstrate this to your child, show them what they have to do.
Using Language To Analyze Information
How much does your child notice about the different stencil shapes? How good is their visual perception?
Even adults find it hard to take all this information on board. It’s harder for children as they don’t have the same experience. Language is an important way to help your child identify and remember the stencils shapes. Teaching your child the correct language helps them analyze the information contained in the stencils.
For example:
• Shape names: circle, square, cross, octagon, triangle, diamond, cross, star…
• Shape properties: straight, curved, round, angular, square corners…
• Size: small, medium, large, bigger, smaller, thick, thin.…
• Quantity: how many sides, how many corners?
• Orientation: diagonal, vertical, horizontal…
• Position: front, back, next to, middle, before, after, first, second, third, next, order, sequence…
Discovering the Rules
There are some useful rules to be learned. One basic rule is: a solid square always goes at the back. But if there are two solid squares which is the correct one? There are other rules to discover, can your child find them? Can they explain them?
Trying Again
If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Your child can play the games as many times as they want. Each time they play it, it will seem easier and they’ll get faster and be more accurate.
