The Digital Eye is an android application that assists the visually impaired persons to help them in facing daily life issues like when they use public transport and go to the restaurants. Blind persons face various problems in their daily life and this application will target these issues and make some solutions for them.

The Digital Eye application will be beneficent for visually impaired persons. This application will be used for currency recognition and scan menu items and their prices.

We will use text recognition technique in both currency recognition and menu recognition module. In currency recognition module it will target text to be written in English language on currency notes and in menu recognition module it will target text to be written in English language on restaurant’s menu. After recognizing text it will produce an output in voice via text to speech technology that will assists blind persons in recognizing currency notes and restaurant’s menu.

While using text recognition technique in currency recognition the system will recognize the text written on the currency notes image captured by a user. If the image is of front side of currency note the system will recognize seven-digit serial number with prefix appears at the right top and the other number appears below the watermark at the left bottom of the note and will ask the user to flip the note and capture the image once more time. If the captured image is of back side of currency note then the system will recognize the text that appears near right bottom representing the value of currency alphabetically, the system will pick the text and convert that text in audio using text to speech technology. While using text recognition technique in menu recognition the system will recognize the text written on the menu image captured by a user. The system will recognize the text that appears on the menu that tells the foods items available at the restaurant with their prices, the system will pick the text and convert that text in audio using text to speech technology. When a user get to know about the food items available at the restaurant, he/she can place order while the system will listen to user’s input and order will be placed and order placement message will be received.
