Well Sonar

Well sonar measures remaining water in private well drillings.

The Well Sonar app measures water level in private wells. It works by measuring the amount of time it takes for a sound to travel to the water level of the well and back to the surface. The echo time is then used together with the dimensions of the well to calculate the remaining amount of water.

Please note that the app is only reliable for relatively deep wells, since a clear echo has to be detected. At least 5-10 meters (15-30 feet) to the water is required.

Instructions:

Start Well Sonar and press settings in the menu. Here the dimensions of the well can be adjusted. E.g. well pipe diameter, depth of pump or injector, etc. The settings are saved for following usage of the app.

The measurement is performed by pressing the big red button followed by a manual knock on the cover of the well. The knock should generate a clearly heard echo, preferably multiple echoes. For best results, aim the microphone at the bottom of the phone towards the well.

Press the button again when no more echoes can be heard. If the app detected the echoes, the amount of remaining water will be shown.

The accuracy of the measurement can be seen at the bottom of the screen. Accuracy is rated high if multiple echoes of the same length could be detected. If accuracy is not good, try producing better echoes by knocking with a different object or holding the phone closer to the well as well as keeping background noise at a minimum.
