The Yajurveda derived from Yajus means “Sacrificial Formula” and Veda means “Knowledge”. It is the collection of sacrificial prayers used by the Adhvaryu priest. Yajurveda has two major divisions : Black (Krishna) Yajurveda and White (Shukla) Yajurveda. It is an ancient Vedic Sanskrit text.

The Shukla Yajurveda includes text about 16 recensions, while the Krishna Yajurveda have 86 recensions. It was the most and earliest ancient layer of Yajurveda “Samhita” includes about 1,875 verses.

Yajurveda is the second veda among all four Vedas, usually enumerated after Rigveda. Yajurveda, a sacrificial rituals, which indicates the melange of the society which had its simple beginnings that can be picked out in Rigveda and Atharvaveda. It also contains instructions for society to perform their daily rituals in home.
