Surah Dukhan

C’est une sourate «makki» qui compte 59 ayaat.

Surah ad-Dukhan (The Smoke)

This is a ‘makki’ Surah and it has 59 ayaat. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (S) that if this Surah is recited at night, then seventy thousand angels pray to Allah (S.w.T.) to forgive the sins of the reciter. If recited on Thursday nights, all sins are forgiven and houses are built for the reciter in Jannah. The reward for reciting each letter of this Surah is equal to that of freeing a thousand slaves for seeking the pleasure of Allah (S.w.T.).

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said that whoever recites Surah ad-Dukhan in his faraa’idh (compulsory prayers) will be protected from the torment of the Day of Judgement and will easily be able to give his accounts. His book of deeds will also be given to him in his right hand.

If kept in one’s possession, this Surah acts as a protection from the plots of Shaitan. If kept under one’s pillow before sleeping at night, there will be no suffering from nightmares and one will always get good dreams. Keeping this Surah in a place of business makes the trade prosper.

Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said that keeping this Surah as a talisman ensures protection from the authorities and makes people fond of the wearer. Drinking water in which this Surah has been dissolved is a cure for all ailments related to the stomach.

Reward of reciting Surah Dukhan

1. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) said: For one who recites Surah Ha Mim Dukhan at night, he would begin the day while 70000 angels will be seeking forgiveness for him.

2. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) said: Allah would make a house in Paradise for one who recites Surah Dukhan on Friday eve and Friday.

3. Imam al-Baqir (a.s.) said: Whoever recites Surah Dukhan in his obligatory and recommended prayers, Allah would raise him on

the Day of Judgment among those who would be in safety and peace and under the Throne of Allah, his accounting would be easy and his scroll of deeds would be given in his right hand. (The giving of Record of deeds in the right hand implies success and admission into Paradise).

4. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) said: One who recites it on Friday eve would be forgiven.

AL DUKHAN (44)

i) Whoso recites this surah in his obligatory and

supererogatory salats, would rise on the day of

jdugemetn among those who would be in peace and safety under the throne of Allah, his examination would be leniently conducted and his record of deeds would be given in his right hand.

ii) Whoso recites this surah, would receive a

reward equal to the reward of liberating one hundred thousand slaves for each of its letters.

iii) Whoso writes this surah on paper and wears it as a tawiz, would remain safe from those calamities connected with nights.

iv) If this surah is written on a china plate, washed with clean water, whoso suffering from migraine drinks it would be cured; it would also cure hardness of stomach and constipation.

v) If this surah is written on paper and kept in the trading premises, the sale and profits would increase day by day and if this tawiz is worn around the neck he would remain safe from the mischief of men-inauthority, and he would be a popular man among the people.
